Prepared text of talk given in San Francisco, January 30, 1998

This is the text of an invited talk by Dr. Speidel to the Sierra Club in 1998, a time when the Sierra Club's population policies were being hotly debated. We have this article courtesy of a Club member who attended the talk. Speidel's talk was not focused on immigration, but notably he did say, "What approach to the migration issue is appropriate? Ignoring the issue is intellectually dishonest - it is a real issue and should be addressed."History shows that the Sierra Club ignored him with a vengeance. Speidel currently is a major researcher and scholar in women's reproductive health issues and global population problems at the Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health at the University of California, San Francisco, as well as chairman of the board of the Population Connection.
